- My friend has this setup and he says that he has configured his network to run using the following hardware: - 3 PC's (one of which is a laptop) all of which are running Windows XP Pro, 1 Network switcher which has five LAN ports, and an ADSL broadband modem. Firstly is there any need for the switcher at all and what is its purpose on such a network? I have sugguested he used a router to simplify issues but he says he can't afford to buy one so we have to work with what we have here. What is wanted is full network sharing and full internet access on each connected machine. How would you go about configuring windows networking in the most sensible fashion.
