- I lost my original dell computer after a power surge so I reformatted the hard drive and changed the motherboard. I reinstalled windows xp. Usually it gives you 30 days before you must activate your account, but in the same day I reinstalled, I can’t log-on because Windows is saying my 30 days is up. I may have changed the date/time and I think this may have something to do with it. When I tried to change it back, I still couldn’t log on. So (finally) my question: Where do I get a confirmation id (7 sets of 6 digits for a total of 42 numbers)??? I tried contacting MS but they say my version is already registered, which it was, however, the other computer is dead. RobinBattineau, your profile says that I cannot email you???
- Is there a way to lock a program in windows XP? In my case i want to lock Bitcomet so when I’m downloading stuff nobody can open it and mess with the download speed. I want to lock it when is the taskbar downloading something I don’t want to lock windows, just an specific program. Like for example in Schools there’s programs and stuff they lock so nobody can mess with it.

You must have a previous version of Windows installed on it. From there, you can use the Upgrade disk.
If you need too reinstall XP first you need the full version unless you do a system restore with the system recovery disk then this will make your computer back when you first got it.
If it came with a Win xp on it then all you need I believe too upgrade too a higher version of xp is an upgrade disk but I sure if you do updates you get it the same way.
If on the other hand you had 98 on your computer when you first got your computer.

Fist for your question you cannot install winxp unless you have a full version of it.
You cant install xp from a upgrade disk.
If you have 98 on your computer try putting in the upgrade disk and see what happens.
If you don’t find your old 98 95 CD’s, and don’t have a friend to borrow one from, Email Me I’ll be glad to copy my W98 disk for you.
