- I lost my original dell computer after a power surge so I reformatted the hard drive and changed the motherboard. I reinstalled windows xp. Usually it gives you 30 days before you must activate your account, but in the same day I reinstalled, I can’t log-on because Windows is saying my 30 days is up. I may have changed the date/time and I think this may have something to do with it. When I tried to change it back, I still couldn’t log on. So (finally) my question: Where do I get a confirmation id (7 sets of 6 digits for a total of 42 numbers)??? I tried contacting MS but they say my version is already registered, which it was, however, the other computer is dead. RobinBattineau, your profile says that I cannot email you???
- Is there a way to lock a program in windows XP? In my case i want to lock Bitcomet so when I’m downloading stuff nobody can open it and mess with the download speed. I want to lock it when is the taskbar downloading something I don’t want to lock windows, just an specific program. Like for example in Schools there’s programs and stuff they lock so nobody can mess with it.

you have to work through all the prompts at Microsoft to get a real person to tell them what happened. they will then get you the proper code to activate it.
Don’t. Write or download a crack, email me if you want a good one, completely clean. If you choose to activate, you will need to re-activate for every 4 new pieces of hardware that go in your machine. MoBo and CPU count as 2.
I don’t see how it is possible for Windows Activation to lock you out if you reformatted your hard drive & reinstalled Windows.
The only think I can think of, is that it has been less than 30 days since you installed Windows XP using that same Product Key.
Windows XP will not allow you to activate twice in a 30 day period.
The same thing happened to me and I was able to get help by using my Windows XP installation disk.
There is a link at the bottom right of screen where you enter your Product Key, that is for activating Windows without a Product Key.
Basically, it gives you a number to contact Microsoft Customer Service. You provide them with your Product Key and the reason why you are wanting to activate again in less than 30 days.
As long as you can give a good explanation & you sound like you are a legitimate customer, they will provide you another code you can use to activate Windows.
