mfunke76 asked:

i have Windows XP and want to go to a Vista Upgrade. So this will make my operating system now Vista. Do I still have to move all my files to an external hard drive, or risk them being deleted? Or does Vista have a way to preserve them?

Unless the installation runs into an error..

Vista should save all of your files in a folder called WINDOWS.OLD

If it thinks there will be an error, the upgrade advisor will advice you in advance l]Unless the installation runs into an error..

No need to backup your files from XP unless you are confident about the installation procedure.
