i want a microsoft software its windows xp, but mine is different than my friends hers is newer. she has a picture editor, and the windows apperance is see through. do u know what kind of windows xp she has?

When I go to install windows server, an error message comes up saying that I can not upgrade from xp to server 2003. When I try to do a clean install, a blue screen error message comes up saying that a problem has occurced, the computer was shut dow to prevent damage to your computer. Any Ideas?
