I have an HP Pavilion computer with the windows xp home operating system. When I select shut down or restart from the start menu, the computer seems to be shutting down but after a few minutes it goes to a plain blue screen and never restarts or says that it is safe to turn off the power. What should I do to correct this?
I have tried all the suggestions so far and nothing has solved the problem yet.

i went to control pannel>system>advanced>performance

and i chose to make it “adjust for best performance”
so it went to the “classic” look of Windows.. *black and white*

and i tried making it look like XP again, but its not working.. not from right click>properties.. (windows xp is not even an option)

how can i fix this?
